PromPerú informó que nuestro país buscará fortalecer su posición como principal destino para el observatorio de aves durante su participación en la vigésimo primera edición de la feria British Birdwatching 2009 en el Reino Unido, el primer mercado emisor europeo de turistas al país. El Perú es uno de los países con más variedad de aves a nivel mundial y uno de los más ricos en biodiversidad, prueba de ellos son los récords mundiales que ostenta: 331 especies de aves registradas en un solo día en el Parque Nacional del Manu y 569 especies registradas en una sola locación en Tambopata.
El Nororiental es uno de los más apreciadas por los aficionados a esta actividad: se inicia en Chiclayo, cruza la sierra en la parte más baja de la cordillera de los Andes y culmina en la parte baja de la Amazonía. Durante el trayecto por este y otros circuitos, es posible observar más de 200 especies de aves. Desde Trujillo hay aves endemicas cerca de Sinsicap y Chao.

Perú estará presente por tercer año consecutivo en la British Birdwatching Fair 2005, en Rutland (Reino Unido). Este año no sólo se desea promover al Perú como destino ideal para los observadores de aves, sino también difundirlo como país prioritario para la observación de especies endémicas, sostuvo el gerente general de PromPeru, Carlos Zamorano. Perú cuenta con 120 tipos de aves endémicas, es decir, más de cien especies confinadas tan sólo a una región en particular e inexistentes fuera de ésta. La Bird Fair, que se llevará a cabo del 19 al 21 de Agosto, será escenario del encuentro de 19 mil visitantes de todas partes del mundo interesados en el birdwatching. Se estima que el mercado de birdwatchers alcanza la cifra de 100 millones de personas en todo el mundo, según la Bird Life International. Este segmento de aficionados mueve aproximadamente US$ 2 mil millones sólo en Inglaterra.
